Danbarov broj, koji iznosi 150, predstavlja teoretski maksimum pojedinaca sa kojima grupa ljudi može održavati prisne kontakte, tj. vrstu odnosa koja podrazumeva poznavanje šta je svaka osoba i kako se odnosi prema svakoj drugoj.Grupe veće od ovoga obično zahtevaju striktnija pravila i zakone - potrebna je određena vrsta regulacije da bi se održala stabilna kohezija.
Robin Danbar, britanski antropolog, smatra da je ova granica u direktnom odnosu sa relativnom veličinom neokorteksa. On je godinama proučavao najrazličitije ljudske zajednice i odnose koji vladaju u njima, i zaključio da je 150 magična cifra, jer je to najveći broj ljudi u grupi koja skladno funkcioniše. Sve grupe koje imaju više članova gube na socijalnoj koheziji, kaže akademik koji trenutno aktivno proučava prijateljstva preko Fejsbuka.''Zanimljivo je da ljudi na Fejsbuku mogu da imaju i preko 1000 prijatelja, ali kada analizirate promet na društvenim mrežama, vidi se da ljudi održavaju vezu sa najviše 150 ljudi, što smo već primenili u stvarnom svetu'', kaže Danbar.
Ljudi greše kada svakoga koga su upoznali smatraju poznanikom, dodaje Danbar i kaže da poznanstvo podrazumeva barem jedan kontakt godišnje. Sve slabije od toga ne zaslužuje da se zove druženjem i ne spada u magični broj 150.

When we look into the real life we can find the number is less than the 150 that Danbar is describing here. Even though we all met a lot of new people in our life most of us are not good at keeping our relations for a long time. In the long run, we lost connections with many of our friends, and many new ones will get added also.
